This Should Be Legal...

  1. The claim is **false**. The **Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012** did **not** legalize propaganda in the U.S. Instead, it **eased restrictions** on the domestic dissemination of government-funded media, such as **Voice of America**, but it did **not** authorize the government to propagandize Americans. The original **Smith-Mundt Act of 1948** had prohibited the U.S. government from distributing its international broadcasts domestically due to concerns about propaganda. The 2012 modernization removed that restriction, allowing Americans to access content that was already being broadcast internationally. However, this does **not** mean the government was given free rein to spread propaganda within the U.S.

  2. "Eased restrictions" is Democrat newspeak for allowing government to spread propaganda through the news media. That was what FDR did in the 30s, and Harry Reid passed it.
