A VERY MAGA CHRISTMAS: President Trump Declares Christmas Eve and Dec. 26 Federal Holidays

President Donald Trump handed federal workers an early Christmas gift Thursday — taking executive action to give them both Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas off.
The move goes beyond Trump’s earlier holiday gestures. While the president has previously granted Christmas Eve off — including in 2019 and 2020 — this time he added Dec. 26 as well, an unusual step in the federal holiday calendar.
Past presidents have occasionally offered full or half days on Christmas Eve. But a two-day Christmas break is something else entirely.
The timing is no accident.
The overture comes after federal workers endured a brutal stretch during the record-breaking 43-day government shutdown, which ended just last month.
As often happens, federal holidays may once again set the tone for the private sector, where employers frequently mirror Washington’s lead on time off.
There is one caveat. Under Trump’s executive order, agency and department heads retain the authority to require certain employees to work on Christmas Eve and Dec. 26 if operational needs demand it.
Still, for most federal workers, the message is clear. This Christmas, Trump didn’t just deck the halls — he cleared the calendar.
