During an interview, Murphy mentioned that he and his wife had discussed offering someone with uncertain immigration status a place to stay above their garage. However, Murphy's office later clarified that no one actually moved in and that the individual in question is a legal resident.
Tom Homan, the Trump administration's border czar, responded by warning that if Murphy was knowingly harboring an undocumented immigrant, it would be a violation of federal law and could lead to prosecution. However, since Murphy's office has clarified the situation, it seems unlikely that any legal action will be taken against him.
