Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass are framing the riots as Trump’s fault, accusing him of provoking chaos by deploying the National Guard. Newsom called the deployment “unlawful” and plans to sue, claiming it violates state sovereignty. Bass told NPR it’s an “intentional effort to sow chaos.” But let’s be real: the chaos started when rioters began attacking law enforcement and destroying property. The National Guard was called in to protect federal agents and facilities, not to escalate tensions. Newsom’s claim that rioters are just “living their lives” ignores the reality of looted businesses and burning cars. His dare to Trump—“Arrest me!”—is political theater, not leadership.
